register and we'll add your organization below with a summary of your planned activities.
Friends of the Santa Margarita Library (Santa Margarita, CA)
Membership drive, free books for children in the used book store when accompanied by an adult, refreshments in the used book store, and San Luis Obispo county-wide National FOL Week Proclamation.
Friends of Middle Country Public Library (Centereach, NY)
The Friends of Middle Country Public Library in Centereach, New York plan to celebrate National Friends of Libraries Week with a gala of activities. Our membership runs from January to December, however, if you join during Friends Week, patrons will receive bonus months and their membership will be extended until December 2009. We ordered pencils from JanWay to distribute that states "Compliments of the Friends of MCPL" and we've order new brochures explaining what the Friends provide to the library. We plan on having a display board of all the activities and events the Friends sponsor. Plans are still in the works with many Friends contributing to ideas to kick off this exciting week
Friends of the Drake Public Library (Centerville, IA)
The FDPL will kick off the week by co-hosting an open house with the Library Board of Directors and the library staff to celebrate the just completed renovations of the Drake Public Library. We will hand out leather bookmarks to guests. One day during the week we will invite the Mayor and the City Council to a coffee with muffins and fruit kabobs to promote "Healthy Minds-Healthy Bodies". We will have the Mayor sign a proclamation prior to this date and have it published in the local newspaper on Monday October 20Th. We will have a special story time with a "Friendship" theme. One evening we may have a children's craft night and make "Friendship" bracelets. Our membership drive is never ending. During NFOL week we will set up a "Friends" table at the library to show off our new 2009 Friends membership forms, new brochures and offer for sale, mugs and t shirts with our new logo. We will have an evening with a special guest reader. At our September monthly meeting we will do some brain storming and will finalize our plans, which will include something for each day October 19-25th.
Friends of the Enterprise Public Library (Enterprise, AL)
We plan to submit a proposal to the mayor to have that week proclaimed Friends of the E'prise Library week. We are also holding our semi-annual book sale that week. Our membership drive/newsletter will publicize the upcoming events. We hope these events will generate publicity about the Friends and library.
Moorpark Friends of the Library (Moorpark, CA)
Plan to have a special book sale along with our cities annual festival.
Town of Berne Public Library (Berne, NY)
The Berne library will display a bannner thanking our Friends of the Library. We will have guest readers for a storytime.
Friends of Marcellus Free Library (Marcellus, NY)
We are donating the proceeds from our Book Nook for the week of October 19-25 to the ALA Hurricane Katrina Library Relief Fund. Our town has just built a beautiful, new library. In hopes of multiplying our gift, we are asking each of the vendors who worked on our library if they would consider matching whatever amount we make that week. A Literary Luncheon, using recipes and readings taken from
The Book Lover's Cookbook and
The Book Club Cookbook, is planned. Members may also bring a dish which is inspired by a book of their own choosing.
Friends of the North Merrick Library (North Merrick, NY)
We have only just begun our planning - so far, we have planned a membership drive and will give away a free tote bag with our logo for every member.
Friends of RiCI Library (Mansfield, OH)
We have planned a small dinner for our Friends group members.
Peninsula Friends of the Library (Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA)

Talladega Friends of the Library (Talladega AL)
In celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week October 19-25, our group has planned a tent book sale and membership drive outside the Talladega Public Library each morning from October 20-26. We will have refreshments and fellowship. On October 21 at 5:00 p.m., we have a program planned for our members and the whole community is invited. The program, "Chocolates with Elvis," is planned to introduce our newly formed Friends of the Library to the community. Chris Phillips will entertain on the piano as well as sing a collection of Elvis songs and give an informative program about the "King." We will have a chocolate station and coffee bar for refreshments.
Friends of the Monterey Park Library (Monterey Park, CA)
We will have the fall Friends newsletter out in the library along with applications for membership.
Fayetteville Public Library (Fayetteville, AR)
Mayoral proclamation and in-library promotions.
Friends of South Carolina Libraries (FOSCL)
South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has isssued a statewide proclamation declaring Oct. 19-25 as Friends of Libraries Week at the request of FOSCL, Friends of South Carolina Libraries. Statewide press releases have been sent to major newspapers in the state, and the South Carolina State Library is assisting in getting the word out about this celebration.
UMKC Friends of the Library (Kansas City, MO)
UMKC Friends of the Library plans to distribute bookmarks to all members of the University of Missouri-Kansas City's faculty and staff. Bookmarks will come with a letter from the Friends' president, including all of the great benefits the Friends provide for the university community, as well as an invitation to join the Friends at 50% off the regular rate. The Friends also will host a table in the main library on Oct. 23. At that time the Friends will distribute Friends literature and free Alphapointe pens.
Friends of St. Croix Falls Library (St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin)
We plan to have a morning coffee at the library on Thursday, October 23, to promote our Friends group.
Friends of Ida Long Goodman Memorial Library (St. John, KS)
In our week long spotlight of our FOL group, we will start on Sunday, October 19, with a movie afternoon featuring "The Harvey Girls" and refreshments. This goes with the Thursday evening presentation of the Community Arts program "Harvey Girls: It All Began in Topeka" presented by Michaeline Chance-Reay. Refreshments and additional visual aides will be reminiscent of the Harvey Houses. Also bookmarks featuring 20 Reasons to be a FOL will be handed out- - the set is of 4 bookmarks and members will be urged to collect them all by the end of the week. Displays of trains and posters featuring these Harvey House train stops will be in the library. 2009 memberships will be taken 30 minutes prior to the program.
Ravenna Friends of the Library (Ravenna, NE)
This week will mark our annual FOTL membership drive. An anonymous donor has offered to match all memberships received. We are offering tea and treats for all who attend.
The Friends of Cambria Heights Library (Queens, NY)
We will have a Membership drive; we will be donating free gifts. We will discuss our 'reaching out to local officials efforts' for assistance in helping to renovate our library's basement and improve programming and we will take suggestions for overall improvement of programming for youth services at the branch and serve refreshments
